Providing as high education as possible for the people is one of the ways to be an advanced country. However, apparently, today, not all young people get higher-level education, such as university. Despite the advancement in many fields of life, not few students simply choose to quit only until high school level, and prefer to work because of the demands to support their families’ economy. Until finally, the issues arrived into Sukanto Tanoto’s concerns, who then initiated to provide annual scholarship for students to continue their studies to the universities through his Tanoto Foundation.
Sukanto Tanoto and his commitment for education
The scholarship program starts on November 1, 2014 and will end on January 18, 2015, and can be followed by any students who meet the specified criteria. It is quite easy to join the scholarship program. The applicants are expected to register through www.tanotofoundation.com website.
The scholarships from Sukanto Tanoto was officially launched in Balia Sultan Building, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Widya Panam Campus,University of Riau, Pekanbaru on Friday, November 14, 2014 for the 2015/2016 period. This is expected to be an opportunity for young people to feel and get higher educations and improve their skills as much as possible. This is very important because they are the successors of Indonesia. More importantly, by providing the scholarships, Sukanto Tanoto has proved his commitment for educational development in this country.
The Scholarships provided by Tanoto Foundation, which was founded by Sukanto Tanoto and his wife, Tinah B. Tanoto started in 2006. The scholarships, whose goals are to help students with good capabilities and potentials, to pay the tuition, supporting equipments, and monthly allowance. Until this year, this program has benefitted more than 3,500 scholarships to students in some universities both in Indonesia and abroad.
Annual Scholarship Scheme from Tanoto Foundatio
Just like previous years, this year Tanoto Foundation provides scholarships again for undergraduate degree students (S1) and postgraduate degree students (S2). There are two kinds of scholarships offered by the foundation, namely, scholarship with or without bond. The first category is given for the students with high academic achievements, capabilities, and courage. These students will receive scholarships with employment contracts to work in Sukanto Tanoto’s partner enterprises such as, the Royal Golden Eagle, Asian Agri, and PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper or commonly known RAPP after they graduate
As for the non-bond scholarship, the recipients get the scholarships for their education only for one period. They do not have to sign any employment contracts with one of the companies. So that they can choose their own careers based on their interests and competence, which are in accordance with what they have learned in the universities.
